Nestled high in the Rocky Mountains of Montana lies the source of MONTAQUA. These springs flow naturally from a limestone formation as pure as water can be. The search for facts concerning Montaqua Springs has opened our eyes to how pristine and unique our waters are. Where is Montaqua Springs located? (back to top) Montana is known as "The Last Best Place,” sparking images of natural beauty and unspoiled land. Despite being the fourth largest state, Montana's population is still below the million mark. Montaqua Springs is positioned in the southwestern tip of Montana, 10 miles south of Dillon. Dillon is the county seat for Beaverhead County with an estimated population of less than 6,000. Beaverhead County is larger than Connecticut and Rhode Island combined. It has 3.5 million acres of land for a little over 9,000 inhabitants to use. The use of this land is limited because of the protection by the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, which covers 3.32 million acres. Does MONTAQUA come from a protected source? (back to top) The source of Montaqua is extremely protected from the industrial world and the pollutions that are associated with it. In a hundred mile radius there are no cities or towns larger than 35,000. The mountains and watershed area that are positioned above the springs further guarantees the protection of the source. Only national forest and Yellowstone National Park are located behind the springs in its recharge zone. A custom built glass atrium has been built over the spring to give added protection. Great time and effort was taken not to alter the source in any way. The atrium not only protects the source of MONTAQUA but also lets those interested marvel at the sheer volume of crystal clear water that flows daily. How does the water surface? (back to top) The water bubbles up through limestone formations clear as glass. The waters surface by their own natural pressure with a consistent warm temperature between 69 and 71 degrees. This steady temperature classifies them as geothermal springs. Examination of geological mapping, studies and other resources indicate that the source water is derived from a Madison Limestone formation that lies between areas of tertiary volcanic intrusion. The consistency of both the water quality and temperature indicate that there is little influence from nearby surface water recharge. The recharge zone lies in the Blacktail Range, a composite of older mostly folded and faulted Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary formations with more recent Tertiary volcanic intrusions consisting of granite, basalt and andesite. The heat and temperature stability must be gained from contact of the Madison Limestone aquifer. Contact must also be of sufficient duration to stabilize the temperature and moderate any fluctuations that would occur from seasonal recharge. These factors ensure the purity of the water when it surfaces as true natural spring water, as specified by the FDA guidelines for bottled water. Where is MONTAQUA bottled? (back to top) The water is pumped from the springs, not from a borehole, to a state of the art bottling facility located at the source. We have taken special steps in preserving the natural state of the springs and the surrounding area so the natural mystique of Montaqua Springs continue. A custom built glass atrium covers and protects the springs for people to observe the natural source. Inside the building one can see how the water flows from the formation of limestone as it has for years. From this atrium, the water is pumped to our bottling plant that is located at the source of Montaqua Springs. Great care has been taken to ensure all equipment is of the highest quality so that this water can reach you the consumer in its pure state just as it flows from the source. The bottling equipment and all other support machinery are housed in a beautiful 25,000 sq. foot building. Much time and effort has been put into maintaining the natural beauty of the land and the building reflects this desire. Can we visit Montaqua Springs? (back to top) If reading about the source on our website is not enough, we invite you to visit Montaqua Springs. We enjoy sharing the natural beauty and the stories that accompany the source with all those who are interested. Tours of the bottling facility and the atrium can be arranged by contacting us ahead of time. We can accommodate couples or large groups with prior notice. There is lodging at the source through Hidden Valley Guest Ranch. If you would like to stay at the ranch, check out its website at http://www.hvgr.com We do encourage people who enjoy our water or those who might be skeptical to visit the source. After your visit you'll understand why MONTAQUA is in a class of its own. Want more facts and information?
